Michael Flatley Hits the Road
Get in line! Michael Flatley, who is currently making his Broadway debut in Lord of the Dance: Dangerous Games, will headline the U.S. tour of the production. The Irish dance legend’s appearances on the road will mark his final onstage performances; the tour is set to kick off at the BB&T Center in Florida on February 19, 2016 before heading to cities including Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Lord of the Dance: Dangerous Games will run through January 3 at the Main Stem’s Lyric Theatre.
Gigi's Corey Cott & Victoria Clark Reunite
Former Gigi co-stars Corey Cott, Victoria Clark and Howard McGillin, along with Sherie Rene Scott, Joe Carroll, Erin Mackey, Alexandra Silber Betsy Wolfe and more, are teaming up for a good cause! Directed by Barbara Grecki, Raise The Roof! A Broadway Holiday-ish Benefit Concert ForThe Church of St. Paul and St. Andrew will take place on December 14. Expect an evening filled with song, poetry and jubilee; funds raised will go towards repairs for the historic Upper West Side Church.
David Henry Hwang Victim of Knife Attack
Playwright David Henry Hwang (Chinglish, Flower Drum Song, M. Butterfly) was slashed in the neck on the evening of November 29 near his home in Brooklyn. The New York Daily News reports that the attack was apparently random; the Tony winner is now home and expected to make a full recovery. The culprit has yet to be apprehended. Mike Birbiglia Slated for Off-Broadway
Switching gears, new comedy Mike Birbiglia: Thank God For Jokes is heading off-Broadway. Directed by Seth Barrish and penned and performed by Birbiglia, the show will tiptoe through the minefield that is modern-day joke-telling. Previews will begin on February 2, 2016 with opening night scheduled for February 11 at the Lynn Redgrave Theater.
